Göttingen Minipigs are prone to develop human-like disease phenotypes when fed specific diets. In this Web Academy, we will give examples of diet-induced disease models in Göttingen Minipigs, including anemia and MASH. In addition to model-specific details, the presentation will also include practical aspects of diet interventions in Göttingen Minipigs and important animal welfare considerations and refinements.
One presentation will delve into a diet-induced model for studying anemia in piglets. Discover how these models are used to test and compare the efficacy of iron-containing products, focusing on method design, practical challenges, and the well-being of the minipigs.
The other presentation will showcase a novel Göttingen Minipig model for MASLD/MASH using CDAHFD feeding. Learn how this model replicates human liver disease more effectively than traditional rodent models, emphasizing disease progression, chow-reversal effects, and phenotypic and histological findings.
