Handling & Dosing
Learn to understand the behavior of Göttingen Minipigs and the importance of socialization and training. Get an introduction on how to create an enriched habitat that supports the biological needs of Göttingen Minipigs. Engage in hands-on learning as you approach, lift, and carry the minipigs under supervision. Try out various restraint techniques and different dosing techniques including oral dosing. Discover the practicality of slings and perform blood sampling within them. Depending on the participants’ level of experience, there will also be room for more specific individual training like endotracheal intubation and catheterization methods for vascular access. Humane euthanasia will also be taught on the course.
This is a practical course with limited seatings, so each participant gets plenty of possibilities to work on their own technique and train in a variety of procedures. By course end, you'll possess the ability to work confidently and empathetically with Göttingen Minipigs.
Lecturer: Susi Søgaard, DVM | Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs
About the lecturer: Susi is specialised in biomedicine and has worked with pigs for 17 years and minipigs in biomedical research for the past 9 years. She has a background as a GLP Study Director and Veterinarian, and has extensive experience with Göttingen Minipigs in exploratory and regulatory studies.

Please note, that visitors are only allowed to enter the administration buildings and/or the viewing lofts above the barriers 48 hours, at the earliest, after contact with pigs including contact with their feces or urine. Furthermore, admission is only allowed if the visitor after the contact has showered and changed clothes and shoes before entering the premises of Ellegaard Göttingen Minipigs.
